Clara Moniz (she/her) is a mezzo-soprano, violinist, composer, and music educator based in Toronto, studying voice performance at the Glenn Gould School where she a recipient of the Ihnatowycz Emerging Artists Scholarship
Her solo appearances include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Amadeus Choir), Palmeri’s Misa a Buenos Aires (Amadeus Choir), Andrew Balfour’s Empire Etrange (Soundstreams), and Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater. She has an RCM level 10 certificate in voice with first class honours and distinction. (2024)
A dedicated chorister, in recent years Clara has sung with the TMSingers, the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, Concreamus, Royal York Road United Church, St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, and Pax Christi Chorale. She was also a member of the World Youth Choir (2025), Ellison Canadian Honour Choir (2025) and the Ontario Youth Choir (2023, 2024). Her contributions as a chorister have been recognized with the Robert Heise Award, Cathy Lynn Yorke-Slader Bursary, and the Aimee Wilkinson-Harris Award.
As a composer, Clara is interested in exploring the limits of the voice and particularly enjoys writing for combinations of voices and strings. Her works have been premiered by NATS, the Cincinnati Song Initiative, Pax Christi Chorale, Concreamus, Continuum Contemporary Music, and student ensembles at GGS and the Taylor Academy. She is currently studying with Juhi Bansal as member of the NATS Composer Mentorship 2025/26 cohort and is a participant in the 2025/26 HappLab new music creation program. She was a member of the Westben Performer Composer Residency (2025), and is looking forward to upcoming premieres with, (Art) Song Lab, Chroma International Music Festival, and the N.E.O Voice festival.
Clara is also a passionate music educator. In 2023/24, she was intern conductor with the Mississauga Festival Youth Choir, a young leader with the Oakville Choir for Children and Youth, and taught voice and violin at KAOS Music Studios. A graduate of the Oakville Suzuki Association, she has returned as Childcare Lead and chamber coach for their summer camp. She is currently the conductor of the Glenn Gould School Choir studying under Jennifer Tung, and recently completed the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir’s Conducting Mentorship Program under the direction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée. She is also the director of the GGS Contemporary Music Collective where she supports her peers in creating new music, and premieres student written work.
